Network Programmability

Hotspot 2.0 (requires 0.8.x firmware versions)

We are pleased to announce support for Hotspot 2.0 with our Mist APs! Hotspot 2.0 makes it easier and safer to connect to public Wi-Fi hotspots by requiring WPA2 enterprise encryption.  Users with matching credentials on their devices can seamlessly connect to the network.

Setting up Hotspot 2.0 on your network is as simple as enabling a section in your WLAN Configuration page (Network > WLANs).  Here, make sure your security type is set to WPA-2/EAP (802.1X) and the Hotspot 2.0 section will appear.  Enable this box, and select the operators to support in the dropdown list.  Leaving the Venue Name blank will by default send your site name as the venue.

Some providers have a need to upload custom AP (client) certificates to all APs that belong to the same organization.  You may upload your own AP RadSec Certificate to be used in the AP RadSec Certificate section of your Organization Settings page (Organization > Settings).

Wired/WAN Assurance

Dynamic Port Profiles with MAC Address and RADIUS Filter-ID

We are always looking to improve your experience when using our products and services.  This week we have expanded on our Dynamic Port Profile functionality to support MAC Address and RADIUS Filter-ID for matching rules.  With these additions, you can check specific segments of a device’s MAC Address and RADIUS Filter-ID for matches to apply port profiles.  Use these new matches to apply profiles onto known devices.

To set up a Dynamic Port Configuration, navigate to your Switch Config page (Switches > Select your Switch).  Select Override Site/Template Settings in the Dynamic Port Configuration section.  In the Check dropdown, you may select the field you are checking.  Customize the segment and character offset of the check, and select your port profile to assign to your device.  In this example, we are assigning the AP port profile to all devices connecting with MAC Addresses starting with “5c” in the first segment.

Color Code WAN and Wired Event Types

As we improve upon our Wired and WAN Assurance capabilities, more event types will become visible in the UI.  To help organize these events for better readability, we have now color-coded them in the Insights page (much like our Wireless Insights).  They will be separated into Good, Neutral, and Bad events.  You may either view all events, or filter by event type.

Dot1x Events in Switch Insights

We now have more visibility into switch event types with the inclusion of dot1x Events in the Insights page.  Your dot1x user events, such as User Authentication or Access Denied will show up under the Switch Events of your selected switch.  You may also filter the event list to look for specific dot1x events using the dropdown menu.

Mist Edge

Uptime Information

This week we added an Uptime box to help you keep track of your Mist Edges.  See how long your Mist Edge has been up and running and use this information to help you have more visibility into the stability of your setup.  This is visible in your Mist Edge details page (Organization > Mist Edges > Select a Mist Edge).
